Manchester United have confirmed that rumoured Tottenham target Jesse Lingard will depart the club when his contract runs out this month.
ESPN reported during the January transfer window that Spurs had expressed an interest in Lingard but United refused to enter into negotiations with the Lilywhites since they saw Antonio Conte’s men as direct rivals for Champions League qualification.
It was claimed that United’s refusal to enter into talks with Spurs or West Ham left the 29-year-old disappointed.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on the Here We Go podcast (starting at 6:18) back in March that Tottenham were one of three leading contenders for the England international’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window, along with West Ham and Newcastle.
Alasdair Gold has subsequently claimed on a Q&A with Football.London that Spurs had spoken to Lingard over a summer move but the North London club received indications that he would prefer a move abroad.
Lingard is now set to be available on a free transfer, with United confirming that the midfielder will depart Old Trafford.
Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours, @JesseLingard

Spurs Web Opinion
If Lingard was willing to come to Spurs, I think he would be a very astute signing for us.
Some Tottenham fans will consider this controversial but I believe the England star would be a better fit for Conte’s system than Eriksen, given his work rate off the ball.
However, I suspect Lingard will want to join a club where he will be guaranteed regular starts.
