Cameron Carter-Vickers has expressed his desire to leave Tottenham Hotspur permanently this summer but the centre-back admitted that he is not sure whether Celtic will be able to strike a deal with the North Londoners.
Carter-Vickers has had a series of loan spells in the Championship with varying degrees of success over the last few years but the 24-year-old seemed to come of age during his spell at Celtic Park during the 2021/22 campaign.
The Spurs academy graduate played a valued part in the club’s march to the Scottish Premiership title, putting in solid displays at the back throughout.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have the option to make Carter-Vickers’ loan move permanent for a fee of around £6m (SBI Soccer) but the defender is also thought to be attracting interest from several Premier League sides (90min).
The Daily Record reported last week that the Hoops are in a race against time to activate the option to buy the USA international, with the clause expiring on June 15.
Carter-Vickers has now said that he would like to play at Parkhead next season but admitted that the decision is out of his hands.
The centre-back told The Scottish Sun: “I have really enjoyed it at Celtic. We were good to watch and an enjoyable team to play in. I am 24 now and want to be somewhere where I can settle for a few years.
“Me and my agent have been talking to the club throughout the season about what’s going to happen at the end of the season. But obviously, it’s not just my decision. Celtic have to come to some kind of agreement with Tottenham so it’s not completely in my hands.
“I just want to be somewhere playing football. If I’m being completely honest, I think it’s time to move on permanently. I’m happy with last season. I really enjoyed my time there.
“But what will happen in the future? I’m not too sure. Will I go back? You never know. I just want to be somewhere where I enjoy my football and get on with the manager.
“The manager at Celtic is a top manager who wants to play out of the back and keep possession, which suits me.”
Spurs Web Opinion
One would expect Celtic to take up the option to sign Carter-Vickers, given how well he performed this season. Even though £6m might be a steep fee for the Scottish club to pay, they would likely be able to sell him on for a profit a year or two down the line.
