Danish journalist predicts Christian Eriksen will sign for one of two clubs
Danish TV2 football editor-in-chief Carsten Werge has claimed that he expects Christian Eriksen to either remain at Brentford or return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Eriksen has had a transformative effect on the Brentford side since arriving at the club and the Bees have reportedly already offered the 30-year-old a long-term contract (Sky Sports live transfer blog – June 2, 9:51 pm).
Tottenham are also thought to have made contact with the attacking midfielder’s representatives over a potential return to the club, with the North London club now said to be waiting for a response from the player (Den Jones on GiveMeSport).
Over recent days, Manchester United are also said to have joined the race for Eriksen as Erik Ten Hag looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new season, while Everton have also been credited with an interest in the former Spurs man (Mirror).
Werge has now insisted that the Denmark international feels settled in London and will thus not be joining the likes of United or Everton.
The journalist suggested that the midfielder is likely to either remain at Brentford or move back to the familiar surroundings of Spurs.
Werge told Sky Sports: “We would not be surprised to see Christian stay at Brentford. He has been very good there and he looks very happy in this club with a lot of Danish people around him, including the coach Thomas Frank – who is very good.
“So I think the feeling around him is that, well, even though the money could be bigger at the other clubs that have been mentioned, I don’t think this is a question of money. It is a question about where Christian and his family feel comfortable.
“I imagine that could easily be Brentford. I think Thomas Frank is working really hard to get Christian to stay, as we have all seen he has been a very important player.
“You could see that he was enjoying playing there because he had such a big responsibility for the team, bigger maybe than when he was playing at Tottenham. I don’t think he would go to Everton or United because they are not in a good position.
“He wants to stay in London, you can see that. He’s been there for many years with Tottenham. So if he had to choose between Tottenham and Brentford, it could be Tottenham because of the facilities there.
“I don’t think the Champions League is the main point for Christian now. I think it is to enjoy playing football after what happened and why not enjoy it in a team with a lot of good friends.”

Eriksen’s decision will come down to what he values more – guaranteed starts on a weekly basis or a chance to compete at a higher level at Tottenham. My gut feeling is that he will choose the former as I do not expect Conte to give the 30-year-old any guarantees regarding game time.
