The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur expect to win the race for Djed Spence even though their offer still falls short of Middlesbrough’s valuation of the right-back.
Spence is reportedly Spurs’ top target for the right wing-back role, with The Northern Echo reporting two weeks ago that the Lilywhites believe they could beat other suitors to the 21-year-old’s signature.
Nottingham Forest are also said to be keen on snapping up the England Under-21 international on a permanent deal after his impressive showing on loan at the City Ground last season (Sky Sports transfer centre, 30/5, 10:55 am).
The Guardian claimed on Friday that Spurs had agreed on a £20m fee with Boro for the youngster but this was quickly dismissed by Alasdair Gold, who took to social media to reveal that the Lilywhites still have work to do before they sign the player.
If the Telegraph’s latest update is to be believed, Boro value Spence at around £15m-£20m.
It is explained that Spurs have indicated a willingness to pay around £10m up front for the right-back but the expectation is that Antonio Conte’s men will be able to get a deal over the line.
Spurs Web Opinion
£15m for a player of Spence’s potential is a bargain. Although there is some risk involved since he is not proven in the Premier League, the 21-year-old seems to possess the physical and technical attributes to thrive as a wing-back in Conte’s system.
