A Lautaro Martinez to Tottenham Hotspur would allow Antonio Conte to rotate the team effectively and allow the Italian to have another lethal option to his attack.
After the recent acquisition of Yves Bissouma, Spurs are said to have already begun window shopping at Inter Milan again, this time with their sights reportedly set on striker Lautaro Martinez [Alfredo Pedullà].
Martinez and Conte have worked together before in the two years the Italian manager was in charge of Inter Milan, winning the Serie A in the 2020-21 season. At that time, Conte usually lined his team up in a 3-5-2 [TransferMarkt], with a strike partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku would often act as the target man and hold the ball up while Martinez would make runs off Lukaku.
This proved very effective and between them, they scored 49 goals in all competitions for Serie A during the title-winning campaign [TransferMarkt].
With Tottenham making their return to the Champions League next season, it is crucial that the squad has enough depth to rotate quality players and switch up tactics with the bench if a game plan is not working.
Lautaro Martinez adds another strike option that can either play as a replacement for Harry Kane in a 3-4-3, with Son and Kulusevski on the wings. He could potentially play in a partnership with Son in a 3-5-2, with Harry Kane taking up the number 10 spot and allowing his creativity to flourish.
Additionally, Martinez could also play a strike partnership with Kane, allowing Son some time to rest when he needs it.
The opportunities are exciting for Spurs, and should the deal go through, it would be a great opportunity for Conte’s men to be competitive in more competitions.
The addition of Bissouma adds depth to the midfield alongside Hojbjerg, Bentancur and Skipp, and also gives Conte more players to choose from, picking players based on their specific strengths.
We’ll have to see what happens in the coming days.
