ESPN journalist James Olley has revealed that Middlesbrough have extended the holiday of Tottenham target Djed Spence.
Spence is thought to be Tottenham’s top target for the right wing-back role, and it was reported earlier this month that the North London club were confident of concluding a deal for the 21-year-old quickly (Football Insider).
However, the negotiations between Spurs and Boro for the youngster are seemingly still rumbling on as we head towards July.
Sky Sports (Transfer centre 24/06/22 at 10:38) reported recently that there is still a gap between the fee Tottenham are offering for Spence and the Championship club’s asking price.
The report added that Antonio Conte’s men had identified Lens’ Jonathan Clauss and Torino’s Wilfried Singo as potential alternatives to the England Under-21 international.
However, Boro boss Chris Wilder admitted over the weekend that the club are still locked in negotiations with Tottenham for the right-back (Northern Echo).
Olley has now taken to social media to reveal that Boro have extended Spence’s holiday until July 4.
The journalist added that while Spurs are leading the race for the youngster, the likes of Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Borussia Dortmund and other clubs have not yet given up hope of signing the player.
Little bit of fresh info here: Djed Spence has been given a further week's holiday by Middlesbrough as transfer talks continue. Not due back until 4 July. Spurs still leading race but Forest, Brentford, Dortmund + others keen. Boro's high valuation remains the main issue.

Spurs Web Opinion
The fact that Boro have extended Spence’s holiday suggests that they expect to reach an agreement with Spurs for the 21-year-old over the coming days. I suspect that Tottenham already have this deal in the bag and are simply trying to get the best deal possible in financial terms.
