Tottenham could turn to Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet late on during the transfer window if they cannot sign their main targets, according to Football.London.
Mundo Deportivo recently reported Antonio Conte’s side have made Lenglet a potential target with a loan move close to being struck for the out-of-favour Frenchman.
But Football.London claim Spurs have only listed the 27-year-old as an option to fall back on if they are not able to secure their first choices, despite him reportedly snubbing a loan move last summer.
The Lilywhites reportedly view the Frenchman as a defender who could cover at both centre-back and left-centre-back.
The Athletic noted Tottenham have prioritised a left centre-back this summer, while Alessandro Bastoni, Josko Gvardiol, Sven Botman and Nico Schlotterbeck were named as their main targets.
However, things have complicated with the aforementioned names emerging as difficult or impossible to acquire.
Spurs chased Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni extensively earlier on in the window (Sky Sports) but saw their attempts come to an abrupt end after his agent confirmed he would be staying with the Nerazzurri (Fabrizio Romano).
Sven Botman has since completed a move from Lille to Newcastle while Nico Schlotterbeck secured a switch across Germany to Borussia Dortmund. Tottenham have also reportedly been told that Gvardiol is not for sale (TransferMarkt).
Spurs Web Opinion
Even though it is not an ideal option, Lenglet would still be able to provide some depth at centre and left centre-back. A loan move could be ideal too as it will mean Spurs aren’t committed to anything, unless an obligation clause is inserted.
