Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has admitted that the Eredivisie club do not yet have an agreement in place to sign Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham.
The print edition of Algemeen Dagblad – 27/06/22 (via Sport Witness) reported earlier this week that Ajax had agreed on an initial fee of €25m (£21.5m) with Spurs for Bergwijn.
The report added that the North London club were negotiating add-ons to the deal that could potentially take it to around €30m (£25.8m).
However, the situation seemed to change on Tuesday, with The Telegraph revealing that Spurs had offered Bergwijn to Everton as a makeweight in a deal to bring Richarlison from Goodison Park to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Everton’s interest in the Netherlands international was subsequently backed up by journalist Mike Verweij, who revealed that the Toffees were prepared to offer the Spurs winger a better salary than Ajax.
Schreuder has now admitted that the Dutch club still have work to do to get the Bergwijn deal over the line.
He said (via Fabrizio Romano): “Nothing is done for Bergwijn. We just have to wait.”

Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect Bergwijn’s preference would be to return to the comforts of the Eredivisie, particularly with the World Cup coming up in November.
I am not surprised that Everton are showing interest in the winger but part-exchange deals rarely materialise, which is why I think any deal to sign Richarlison will likely have to be a straight cash one.
