Antonio Conte has recommended that Tottenham sign Pervis Estupinan with Villarreal already aware of the Premier League side’s interest, according to El Periodico Mediterraneo (28/06/22 via Sport Witness).
Spurs have been active in the transfer market so far, already officially adding Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster to their ranks.
The coup of Croatia international Perisic is expected to provide plenty of competition for the left wing-back slot, which in turn could leave the future of Sergio Reguilon hanging in the balance.
The 25-year-old had a mixed campaign last season with injuries hindering his performances, which led to Ryan Sessegnon taking his place in the side towards the end of term.
Football.London claim Tottenham are ready to listen to offers for the Spaniard, although he is thought to be keen on staying in North London beyond the summer.
However, Conte may have already found yet more competition at left-back in the form of Villarreal’s Estupinan and has recommended that Spurs push for a move.
El Periodico Mediterraneo report the Italian coach has advised Spurs to pursue the former Watford player this summer to continue strengthening the squad at his disposal.
The report mentions Villarreal consider Estupinan to be one of their most valuable assets and while it does not state a figure, the Yellow Submarine have already learned of Spurs’ interest.
The Ecuador international joined the LaLiga side in 2020 and has gone on to establish himself as a go-to option under Unai Emery.
He made 41 appearances across all competitions last season (Transfermarkt) and featured prominently in the club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham need plenty of depth across the squad and although they currently have three options at left wing-back, the potential exit of Reguilon cannot be ruled out.
Estupinan would be able to give Conte some more options to think about but Spurs’ position when pursuing a deal will depend on where Villarreal’s valuation falls.
