Tottenham are alongside Chelsea in showing interest in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, according to The Guardian.
Fans may remember that Tottenham made a big push to try and sign Skriniar back in 2020 under Jose Mourinho, although they came up short (Guardian).
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs revealed earlier this month that Inter could offload Skriniar this summer and are looking to secure up to €80 million (£69m) for his sale, with Paris Saint-Germain making a formal approach.
He also noted that Tottenham and Chelsea were among the clubs interested in moving for the Slovakia international, though neither club had made any offers at the time.
And Spurs are now thought to be in the hunt for Skriniar as they continue to chase two new central defenders for Antonio Conte’s squad (Football.London).
The Guardian claim Spurs could reignite their pursuit of the 27-year-old but may face issues if it comes to completing a deal with Inter.
The report explains the club’s ‘glacier like speed’ when conducting transfers of big stature could allow them to be overtaken in the running, with Chelsea named as potential rivals in the race.
Skriniar has been a mainstay in the Inter back line since joining the club from Sampdoria in 2017, emerging as a key factor behind the club’s recent success.
Featuring under Conte for two seasons, he made 32 appearances as the Nerazzurri eased to the Serie A title in the 2020/21 campaign (Transfermarkt).
Spurs Web Opinion
Someone like Skriniar would be a superb addition for Tottenham but it will be a challenging move to complete, as expected. You can’t really take too long to move for players like him as they will get snapped up quickly and that could happen with Chelsea or PSG in this case.
