Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Tottenham will continue exploring the market for opportunities to improve their backline this summer even after snapping up Clement Lenglet.
Spurs have been one of the most active clubs so far this summer, having already secured the services of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison.
The club are expected to make a couple more singings this week before flying out to South Korea on a pre-season tour.
Reports over the last 24 hours indicate that it is only a matter of time before Lenglet’s season-long loan move from Barcelona to Tottenham is officially confirmed (Sport).
Some publications state that the North Londoners also remain confident of agreeing on a deal with Middlesbrough for Djed Spence over the coming days (Evening Standard).
Reports indicated earlier this summer that Antonio Conte could look to sign two centre-backs during this transfer window, with Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez potentially on their way out of the club (Football.London).
The likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Gleison Bremer, Pau Torres and Jokso Gvardiol have all been mooted as potential targets for the Lilywhites (The Athletic).
Romano has now stated that Spurs will continue to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this summer even after singing Lenglet.
When asked if Tottenham are expected to sign another centre-back apart from the Barcelona star, he told GiveMeSport: “I think it depends on the opportunities.
“Lenglet, it’s a loan deal, so it’s a smart deal for Tottenham because they’re not spending crazy money on the centre-back, on a player who has good experience. Conte wanted him, so he’s a smart deal for Tottenham.”

I believe Conte will view Bremer as someone who can cover for both Eric Dier and Ben Davies, and take Joe Rodon’s place in the squad. I personally expect Davinson Sanchez to depart and for Japhet Tanganga to stay at the club.
That would leave Conte with five centre-back options including Lenglet, and so if we do sign another central defender, it could well be an up-and-coming prospect like Illya Zabarnyi rather than an established star like Jose Gimenez.
