Frank Lampard has praised Dele Alli for his performance in the pre-season friendly against Blackpool amidst reports that Everton are ready to cut their losses on the former Tottenham midfielder.
Alli’s seven-year spell at Tottenham came to an end during the January transfer window when the midfielder completed a switch to the Merseyside club.
The 26-year-old would have hoped to get his career back on track at Goodison Park but his performances in the second half of last season left a lot to be desired.
The Sun reported this week that Everton are ready to cash in on the England international this summer, and stated that it would impact the fee that Spurs receive for the midfielder.
The report explained that the Toffees owe Tottenham £10m if Alli makes 20 appearances for the club and the deal could potentially rise to £40m depending on performance-related add-ons.
With the midfielder having just made 11 appearances in the second half of last season, it was asserted that the Merseysiders would be able to significantly reduce their outlay if they sold the former Spurs man this summer.
However, Alli netted a brace to help Everton overcome Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Sunday, with both goals coming from inside the six-yard box.
Lampard referred to the goals as being Alli’s ‘trademark’ and admitted that he wants to see more of the same from the former Tottenham man.
The Everton boss told The Liverpool Echo: “They are goals I want to see from him. It was a trademark of his as he broke through at Tottenham for a number of seasons, and we all know what has happened in between.
“But, if he is going to get back to the best of what we want from him he has to arrive into those areas and score those kind of goals. He also has to work on his general play and be part of the team and understand what we are trying to do. I saw some good things there.”

I am desperately hoping for Dele’s sake that he is able to show some consistency during the upcoming season. Another poor campaign could well mean that his time in the top flight is over, which would be a massive shame, given the talent that the 26-year-old possesses.
