Alfredo Pedulla has said that while Fiorentina are interested in a move for Giovani Lo Celso, the Serie A club do not view the Tottenham midfielder as a priority at the moment.
Lo Celso looks destined to leave Spurs this summer, with the Argentine having played no part in pre-season after returning from his loan spell at Villarreal during the second half of last campaign.
It emerged earlier this summer that the La Liga club are keen on signing the 26-year-old permanently but would have to sell players before they can make a move for him (Todofichajes).
Fiorentina have been linked with a move for Lo Celso recently, with The Times reporting last week that the Viola saw a loan offer for the Spurs man turned down, but returned with a proposal to sign the midfielder on loan with a view to a permanent deal of £15m.
However, the report explained that the offer fell short of Tottenham’s valuation of the player, which is thought to stand at around £20m.
Over recent days, Napoli (Area Napoli) and AS Roma (CalcioMercatoWeb) have also emerged as contenders for the Argentina international’s signature.
Pedulla has now explained that Fiorentina’s priority is to sell players before buying the Tottenham man, and added that Spurs’ asking price for Lo Celso might be putting off the Serie A club. as well as Villarreal.
The journalist said on the Passione Fiorentina Twitch channel (26/07/22 as relayed by Labaro Viola) about Fiorentina’s interest in the midfielder: “At the moment it is a nice suggestion, but it is not a negotiation.
“Fiorentina must unravel the Milenkovic situation, first, and then Dragowski. I do not exclude that the suggestion could turn into something else.
“Tottenham has to sell after buying and Lo Celso is not non-transferable. He has incredible numbers, and important qualities but is often erratic. He could be an opportunity.
“He is on the market: he is redundant. These are situations from mid-August onwards, not necessarily from the end of July. We have to follow him, but with some consistency: he must not become a catchphrase.
“We have to wait. Why didn’t Villarreal buy him back? Because they are not a club that values the products of others. It is a rich club, but it does not give away. They may not have found the right balance on salary and price of the card with Tottenham.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There seems to be no shortage of interest in Lo Celso in both Spain and Italy. However, not a lot of La Liga or Serie A clubs have money to spend this summer, which is why Tottenham might struggle to get market value for the midfielder.
Just as with the likes of Tanganga, Emerson, Reguilon and potentially Rodon, Spurs might have to accept a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy the Argentine next summer.
