Jamie Carragher has defended the comments he made about Richarlison last season, insisting he had become tired of the Brazilian’s constant attempt to feign injury.
Carragher did not hide back his disdain for Richarlison when he was doing commentary work for Sky Sports during the Merseyside derby at Anfield back in April.
The former Liverpool defender said about the 25-year-old during the game (via Liverpool Echo): “Honestly, get up, every week I watch him play like that! Get up, carry on. He’s been down three times already, [there’s] nothing wrong with him.”
This did not sit well with Richarlison, who shot back at the pundit on social media. Here’s what the former Everton man tweeted in response:
@Carra23 wash your mouth before you talk about me and everton and I don't respect you
— Richarlison Andrade (@richarlison97) May 20, 2022
Carragher responded graciously to Richarlison’s tweet, admitting that he would have had something similar to say to pundits during his playing days.
I actually quite like this, if Twitter was about when I was a player I’m sure I would’ve called pundits out quite a lot!! https://t.co/skfIpPCQhQ

The former Liverpool man has now once again weighed in on the back and forth with Tottenham’s new signing, insisting that his respect for the striker has gone up since he tweeted at him.
However, the 44-year-old remarked that Everton fans will be just as frustrated with Richarlison’s antics as opposition fans have been all these years when the Toffees take on Spurs this season.
When asked about his beef with the Brazilian, Carragher told JOE: “He’s gone for me a couple of times and I think a lot more of him now when he came back at me a couple of times.
“I think he’s a good player, but I can’t stand it, there’s a difference between diving and feigning injury.
“It’s the going down when he’s not hurt, if you go down to try to get a free-kick and don’t get it, get up and get on with the game. He’s holding somewhere he’s not been hit and I’d had enough of it.
“I guarantee you Everton fans when they play Tottenham this season will be saying the same if Richarlison carries on with that.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Even though Richarlison is now a Spurs player, what Carragher said about the striker’s attempts to constantly feign injury, is undeniable.
That is why it will be delightful to see Arsenal and Chelsea fans lose their heads at the 25-year-old’s antics over the next few years, and I expect Spurs fans will quickly take to the Brazilian.
