Ben Davies has lavished praise on Harry Kane, remarking that his intelligence inside the opposition box makes him very difficult to mark.
Tottenham edged out Wolves 1-0 this weekend courtesy of Kane’s header in the 64th minute but the away side gave as good as they got for large parts of the encounter.
There were even a few boos echoing around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during half-time, which reflected how well Bruno Lage’s side had played until that point.
After the game, Antonio Conte claimed Wolves are currently a top side on the back of the signings they have made and praised how his players responded in the second half after struggling before the interval (BT Sport).
Davies echoed the Italian’s sentiment, insisting that Tottenham fully deserved the win for the second-half performance.
The Welshman told SpursPlay: “It was a tough game. I think first half we let them onto us a bit too much and they caused us a few problems. They’ve got a lot of quality.
“They’ve spent a lot on some world-class players, and they made it tough for us, but in the second half, I thought we were much better and deserved to win.”
Kane’s header against Wolves was his 185th goal for Spurs in the Premier League, with the striker overtaking Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero as the player with the most goals in the division for a single club (Goal.com).
Davies remarked that goals like the one Kane scored on Sunday do not happen by accident, and heaped praise on the 29-year-old’s intelligence inside the box.
The defender said: “It was nice to see it go in [Kane’s header for the goal]. It’s another personal record for him, so delighted for him.
“It was a big goal in the context of the game, and like I said, they made it tough, and once we got that goal, we felt pretty confident we could see it out.
“It’s crazy. It’s an unbelievable record, and I’m sure he’ll continue for a very long time. He doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon, and to have someone as professional as him leading your line, someone with the quality he has, not just in front of goal but his all-around game, he’s a pleasure to play with.
“Today, people might say the defender could’ve done better, but you know, when you’re so focused on Harry Kane’s movements, so quick, he just reads the game so well, and for me in that situation, the defender can’t do a lot.
“He’s too clever for you in those situations and those goals, he makes it look easy, but there’s a big skill behind it.”
Despite not being at their best against Chelsea and Wolves, Spurs have still managed to grind out four points from the fixtures, and Davies believes that could be crucial come the end of the season.
He added: “It’s trying to build some momentum and about trying to pick up as many points as we can early on in the season,” he explained. “It’s a season where I think every point is valuable. I think last season showed that, so it’s important we kick on from here.”

It is still quite early in the season and so, I am not all that concerned that we have not clicked into gear yet. We need to peak at the right time to challenge at the top end of the table and the fact that we are getting results despite not playing well is a very good sign.
