Former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie believes that Harry Kane could join Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.
There has been plenty of speculation linking Kane with a move to Bayern recently, with Christian Falk revealing earlier this month that the Bundesliga giants are hopeful the striker will not sign a new contract with Spurs so they can make a move next summer.
Florian Plettenberg told Sky Sports (Football Daily) earlier this week that he is “totally convinced” the Tottenham man will be a “very very hot topic” at Bayern Munich during next summer’s transfer window.
The journalist further added that there has been “definite” contact between Bayern and the England captain’s agent and brother, Charlie Kane, regarding a switch to the Allianz Arena.
However, Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside recently that despite Bayern’s desire to sign the 29-year-old and the fact that the striker has less than two years left on his contract, the North London club are “relaxed” about the player’s future.
McAvennie has now claimed that he expects Bayern to make a move for Kane in January and added that he would not be surprised if the striker moved to the Allianz Arena mid-season.
When asked about Kane’s future, the pundit told Football Insider: “They’re (Spurs) not going to win anything. Conte, if he gets them into the top four, that’s a great result for them but that’s not good enough for Harry Kane.
“He’s not got a medal, not one. Somebody like Harry Kane, forget about all the money, that means nothing to him, he wants to have something that he can say ‘I’m a winner.
“Harry Kane deserves something. He’s played in the Champions League final and got a runners-up medal, he played in the Euros final for England and was a runner-up. He wants a winner’s medal. Forget about the money.
“I think he might leave in January. I watched Bayern Munich on Tuesday night and I thought wow they need a striker. They definitely need a striker. I think he’ll go, I think it would be a good fit for him.
“We know he loves Tottenham but a player like Harry Kane can’t go through his career and not win anything, even if it’s just the one. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bayern Munich try and get him in January.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Even if Kane refuses to sign a new contract with Spurs, there is simply no way the club would consider letting him leave in January.
For McAvennie to suggest that Tottenham have no chance of winning silverware despite Conte’s record, is also quite pessimistic.
Kane’s decision on his future will likely depend on how Spurs get on this season but it is clear that the striker has bought into the club’s project under Conte.
