Glenn Hoddle has said that Clement Lenglet’s performance against Eintracht Frankfurt was his best one in a Tottenham shirt so far.
Lenglet was certainly not the most high-profile of the seven signings that Tottenham made over the summer, but the Frenchman has been handed more minutes than many would have expected at the start of the season.
The on-loan Barcelona man has started four out of Spurs’ last five matches, partly down to the fact that Ben Davies has been out of action with an injury over the last few weeks.
Davies returned to action and took his place on the bench against Frankfurt and the Welshman replaced Lenglet in the 78th minute, just minutes after the 27-year-old has been cautioned.
It proved to be a frustrating night for Tottenham in Germany as the Bundesliga club held on for a 0-0 draw but Hoddle believes Lenglet came away from the game with his reputation enhanced.
The Spurs legend told BT Sport (broadcast on 04/10/22; 21:35) about the centre-back: “He did play well. Probably his best performance in a Spurs shirt, for me.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Lenglet seems to be growing with confidence with more matches under his belt. He did show signs on Tuesday of becoming better accustomed to Conte’s system, which is very different to the ones that the Frenchman played in at Barcelona and Sevilla.
