Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he expects Leicester City to receive offers for rumoured Tottenham target James Maddison during the January transfer window.
Maddison has been the lone bright spark in what has been a poor start to the campaign for Leicester, with the midfielder having registered five goals and two assists in eight league games this season (Transfermarkt).
However, there are doubts over the 25-year-old’s future, with his current contract at the King Power Stadium running out in 2024 (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham have been backed to make an approach for the England international during the January transfer window by some journalists (Dean Jones – GiveMeSport).
Football Insider reported last week that the attacking midfielder would ‘jump at the chance’ to join Spurs if the club came in for him.
Rodgers has now hinted that the Foxes are bracing themselves for offers for Maddison when the transfer window reopens but he insisted that the former Norwich man remains completely committed to the East Midlands club.
When asked if there will be bids for the midfielder, the Leicester boss told The Daily Mail: “I would think (there would be).
“My job is to coach him every day and make him the best he can be. It’s only natural you want your absolute best players to be here, and we keep saying that, but we keep losing them. He’s never a player you would want to lose.
“The beauty of James, and it’s the same with this England scenario, is that it hasn’t affected him. That’s where you see the level of maturity.
“What we’ve seen in the past is, sadly, players are linked with all sorts of clubs because an agent has to create a market, and then when it doesn’t come off, you see the player disappointed.
“It’s never been like that, and James has been linked with loads of clubs. But he’s a realist.
“He also knows he’s in a good place to develop and learn, and he knows he can focus on day-to-day life and improve. What will be in the future will be, but it will only be on the back of playing well.”

Leicester’s financial issues are well documented and so, one would expect the club to be tempted to cash in on Maddison in January if he does not sign a new contract before then.
However, if they look like they are in danger of being relegated when January rolls around, I would not be surprised if they decide to keep hold of him.
