Journalist Oliver Young-Myles has suggested that perhaps Ryan Sessegnon could be in contention for England’s World Cup squad.
Sessegnon has gone from strength to strength since Antonio Conte arrived at Tottenham and the youngster has made a bright start to the season, continuing to get plenty of starts despite Ivan Perisic’s arrival in the summer.
The 22-year-old was preferred to Perisic against Brighton on Saturday and he put in a resolute defensive display while also constantly serving as an attacking option down Tottenham’s left.
Sessegnon deservedly picked up the Player of the Match award as Spurs came away with a hard-fought 1-0 win from the Amex Stadium.
The Tottenham man has been a regular for England’s Under-21s over recent years but has not been called up to the senior squad yet.
Young-Myles gave plenty of praise for Sessegnon on the back of his display against the Seagulls and suggested that Gareth Southgate should be taking a closer look at the youngster.
The journalist gave the former Fulham man a rating of eight out of ten and wrote about his performance on Inews: “Picked out Doherty with a searching cross and provided plenty of energy on the left flank, particularly in the second half as he drove at Brighton’s defence.
“With Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell struggling for minutes, perhaps Sessegnon should come into Gareth Southgate’s thinking for the World Cup.”

Left-back is arguably England’s weakest area at the moment, with neither Ben Chilwell nor Luke Shaw getting regular game time at club level.
I would not be surprised if Southgate starts Kieran Trippier at left wing-back in England’s first World Cup game.
However, I do not see the England boss making any big changes to the squad so late, and so Sessegnon would probably have to wait until after the World Cup for his chance.
