Graham Roberts has hailed Ryan Sessegnon, Matt Doherty and Eric Dier for their ‘excellent’ performances in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday.
The trip to the Amex Stadium looked extremely tricky on paper, with Brighton being unbeaten at home since March.
With Spurs coming off a 3-1 loss in the North London derby and a 0-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, some pundits expected Antonio Conte’s men to taste defeat in what was Roberto De Zerbi’s first home game in charge of the Seagulls (Sportskeeda).
However, despite playing just days after Gian Piero Ventrone’s sudden passing, the Tottenham players dug deep to grind out a 1-0 win to maintain third place in the Premier League table.
Sessegnon put in a Man of the Match performance after returning to the starting eleven in place of Ivan Perisic while Doherty also shone in his first start of the campaign.
Dier put in a typically assured display at the back as he organised the Spurs backline and made sure they held firm amidst the later pressure from the home side.
Roberts has taken to social media to praise all three players and also had some positive words regarding Cristian Romero and Harry Kane.
Here’s what the Spurs legend tweeted after the 1-0 win:
Proud of the team yesterday under very difficult circumstances i thought @RyanSessegnon @mattdoherty20 @ericdier were excellent and @CutiRomero2 getting closer to his best also 10 more only goals now until @HKane beats Jimmy greaves incredible record at spurs mind blowing!

To take the field a little over 48 hours after learning about the news of the passing of a valued colleague and friend, cannot have been easy at all for the players.
Every single one of them deserves huge credit for the fight they showed at the Amex Stadium and I am sure Ventrone would have been looking down and smiling at the way the team dug in.
