Tottenham Hotspur were back to winning ways in the Champions League this evening, putting three past Eintracht Frankfurt in North London.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Hugo Lloris – 7 – Made some important saves to make things more comfortable, including a couple of late holds. However, he did also spill the shot that led to Frankfurt’s second from a corner.
Emerson Royal – 6 – Some good moments and some bad ones. A couple of great sliding tackles in his defensive third, but also gave the ball away for Frankfurt’s second. A couple of great crosses, but also some wasted chances. A real mixed bag.
Cristian Romero – 7.5 – Pretty solid from the Argentine. He’s been a little quiet in games recently, going about his business without any fuss. But it was a typical no-nonsense display in terms of winning the ball back and recycling for Spurs.
Eric Dier – 6.5 – Actually played very well, winning lots of aerial balls and knocking it about nicely at the back. But we have to mark him down for that horrid first touch that caused the Frankfurt opener.
Clement Lenglet – 7.5 – A really steady game on and off the ball from the Frenchman. He looked class in possession and was progressive with his passing, and Spurs had very few problems defensively down his side.
Ryan Sessegnon – 7.5 – Another solid game from the LWB. He seems to have improved his consistency this season. Solid defensively all game and a constant outlet in attack. Unlucky not to score due to a great last-ditch challenge.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 8.5 – Tottenham’s midfield general. Another superb assist for the Dane and he just ran the show in midfield. Tackles, great passes through the lines, and some driving runs too. Superb.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 8 – Much like his partner, Bentancur dictated the game from the centre of the pitch. He just looks after the ball so well in possession, and his pressing today was so impressive.
Richarlison – 7 – All the hard work in the world, even if he does struggle to influence the games at times from the right wing. Unlucky not to get an assist for Sessegnon in the second half.
Harry Kane – 7.5 – A really tough one to score. His all-round game tonight was superb, with so many of those trademark balls through to Sonny. He also netted an important penalty. But then he missed another pen in the dying minutes and spooned a simple cross over Bryan Gil’s head.
Heung-min Son – 9 – It was Sonny back to his best tonight. As soon as he got the space to turn, Frankfurt were in trouble. He was committing defenders, taking shots, driving into space, and scoring goals. Could have been a hat-trick but a brace will do.
Substitutes:
Yves Bissouma – 6 – Came on into a three-man midfield and was very neat and tidy on the ball.
Oliver Skipp – 6.5 – Really impressive on and off the ball. Full of energy, pressing, and running that got him and Spurs into some nice positions.
Davinson Sanchez – 6.5 – Won a lot of important late headers during a nervy finish.
Lucas Moura – N/A – Nice to see him back from injury.
Bryan Gil – N/A – So unlucky not to get a goal after winning a penalty and seeing Kane overhit his cross to him late on.
