Former Arsenal striker and football pundit Ian Wright has commented on Harry Kane’s future amid rumours that the Tottenham Hotspur star is wanted by Bayern Munich, insisting the 29-year-old should stay put.
Ever since last summer’s highly-publicised interest from Manchester City came to nothing, the idea of Harry Kane leaving Spurs for another Premier League club seemed unthinkable. That doesn’t stop the rumours linking the England captain with a move abroad though.
Despite earning a number of personal accolades in his time at Tottenham, including three Premier League Golden Boots and an all-but-guaranteed status as the club’s all-time top goalscorer (MyFootballFacts), club silverware is still lacking for Kane in North London.
There has long been talk of Kane being targeted by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, as the German side adjust to life without Robert Lewandowski. Recent reports claim Kane is Bayern’s number-one target for next summer (TZ).
As far as Ian Wright is concerned though, the decision for Kane should be a simple one. Speaking to Premier League Productions (17/10/22 at 2:35 pm), Wright said: “That’s it with Harry (Kane). You would have thought that he’s going to be at Tottenham now.
“With all due respect to Bayern Munich. If Conte’s staying and I am Harry Kane, then I am probably staying.
“I am not being disrespectful to the Bundesliga or Bayern Munich, if Harry Kane stayed here, with Conte, you have to say that’s the best chance, especially trying to beat a Manchester City side, of winning the Premier League here, for what they are trying to do.
“So, why take the chance of going there and even if you do win the Bundesliga, then people aren’t going to give you the credit. It’s not hurt Robert Lewandowski, but at the same time, we are talking about Harry Kane who hasn’t won anything.”
Wright’s thoughts on the matter are clear, as he said: “I would rather stay at Spurs and try there because of the stature he will have there. He will probably get a statue and all of that, if he can do that.”

I really do find it difficult to imagine a world where Harry Kane decides that leaving a club where he is adored, abandoning his mission to break the all-time Premier League scoring record, and uprooting his family to move to Germany would be the right thing to do. I would be very surprised if he doesn’t sign a new contract in the next few months.
