Some Tottenham Hotspur fans will have raised their eyebrows this afternoon when they saw that Cristian Romero and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were not named in the match day squad for today’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold has now explained the absence of the pair, who have been regulars in Conte’s plans.
Romero, who is usually Tottenham’s most attack-minded central defender where he often leaves the backline to join in with play in the other half is forced to sit out the visit of the Magpies with what has been described as a ‘minor injury’.
Heading into today’s fixture, Hojbjerg had started 32 consecutive matches for the north Londoners but will not feature this afternoon as a result of a ‘small injury’.
The duo played the full 90 minutes in Wednesday evening’s 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford against Manchester United and are just two of five changes which Conte has made ahead of the Newcastle fixture.
