Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted that Liverpool need to pick up points against Tottenham on Sunday if they are to have any hope of fulfilling their ambitions this season.
Spurs’ entire focus for the moment will be on their clash against Marseille on Tuesday, with the club’s Champions League hopes on the line.
Following their trip to France, Antonio Conte’s men will welcome a beleaguered Liverpool side to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the weekend. The Reds have struggled for consistency this season and currently find themselves in 9th place in the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp’s men looked like they had turned a corner when they picked up back-to-back wins against Manchester City and West Ham United a couple of weeks ago, but they have subsequently gone back into near-crisis mode after losses against Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.
Tottenham could move 13 points clear of the Reds with a win on Sunday, and Alexander-Arnold admitted that a bad result in North London could be the final nail in the coffin of Liverpool’s season.
The right-back told the club’s official website: “I’d say we all believe in ourselves, we believe in the way we play, the squad and what we can achieve. But I think when you do get setbacks, it can potentially make you second-guess yourself and question things.
“Clearly as a team something’s not going right, it’s not going as well as we want it to go. That’s something for everyone to think about, for everyone to address and make sure we put it right, especially next week against Spurs, top-four rivals.
“We kind of need to go there and get some points if we’ve got any chance of reaching our aims and aspirations for the season.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite their struggles this season, Liverpool have shown an ability to still turnover good teams as we saw in their clash against Man City a couple of weeks ago. So, Tottenham cannot afford to take them lightly.
However, given how fragile their confidence is, their heads will probably drop if we take the lead. I fancy us to beat them, given our impressive record at home over the past few months.
