Tottenham Hotspur’s Matt Doherty has told the club’s official website he was impressed by the performance of Mohammed Kudus in Ghana’s opening game of the World Cup.
Kudus currently plays for Ajax, and has scored 15 goals and contributed six assists since joining the Eredivisie side in 2020 (Transfermarkt).
The young attacker has enjoyed a great start to his international career, too, with five goals in his 19 appearances for Ghana already (Transfermarkt). He is now at the World Cup with the African side, looking to impress on the world stage in Qatar.
The 22-year-old has already caught the eye across Europe, and Spurs were reportedly close to signing him in the summer (Ghana Web). Apparently, Spurs had already sent scouts to watch Kudus and had liked what they saw (GhanaSoccerNet).
More recently, Corriere dello Sport (21/11/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) have claimed the North London side may be tracking Kudus once more ahead of the January transfer window, but will face competition from German side Borussia Dortmund.
Now, Matt Doherty has added his name to the list of admirers for the Ghana star. While he may not be at the World Cup with Ireland, Doherty has clearly been watching all the action.
After the Ghana and Portugal game, Doherty said: “Portugal was a good game. Ghana looked a threat in the second half. I was surprised Ghana took off Kudus (on 77 minutes) with no apparent injury, I thought he was their best player.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The more I see and hear about Mohammed Kudus, the more I am thinking he could be a great signing for Spurs. We will undoubtedly have to fight off some other top clubs for his signature, but he looks a real talent and we should be watching these Ghana games closely as the World Cup progresses.
