Mauricio Pochettino has confidently asserted that Harry Kane will find the back of the net for England in the knockout stages if opportunities come his way.
Kane won the Golden Boot during the last World Cup in Russia but the Tottenham man is yet to open his account in front of goal in Qatar.
However, that is not to say that the England captain has not been effective, as he has laid on three assists for his teammates, with Gareth Southgate’s men topping Group B quite comfortably.
The Tottenham man was pictured with a swollen ankle after the 0-0 draw against the United States a week ago (Daily Mail) and some pundits have questioned whether he is fully fit (Gary Neville podcast).
Pochettino has admitted that Kane’s lack of goals will be playing in his mind, given how much he enjoys scoring, but the former Spurs boss backed the 29-year-old to come up with important goals in the latter stages of the tournament.
The Argentine told talkSPORT: “Harry Kane hasn’t scored a goal yet at this World Cup. You know his passion for scoring goals. How much will that have annoyed him? How desperate will he be to put that right?
“For sure. He wants to score and he will score. Harry Kane is a decisive player, he’s an unbelievable player, maybe at the moment, he’s not had chances to score.
“I think sometimes you don’t score too much, but you score the decisive goals – maybe it’s more important than scoring lots of goals in a game that you maybe win six or seven nil.”

I would not at all be surprised if Kane nets a hat trick in the round of 16 clash against Senegal. As long as England are winning and the 29-year-old is contributing as he is right now, Southgate will not be worried.
However, given that the Tottenham man lives and breaths goals, Pochettino is right in saying that he will be desperate to get on the scoresheet in the next game.
