Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham are trying academy starlet Jamie Donley in a deeper role to try to enhance his ability this season.
The 17-year-old typically operates as a striker and has caught the eye during his outings with the club’s U18 set-up in recent times.
Donley was born in Northern Ireland and has been within the Spurs academy ranks at Hotspur Way since the age of eight.
Even before a large chunk of Antonio Conte’s squad headed off to the World Cup, he was training with the first team at Hotspur Way (Getty).
He stole the show in the U18s match against Norwich City earlier this week when he scored a stunning goal from just inside the Canaries’ half when he spotted the goalkeeper off his line, helping his side to a 3-0 victory.
OH MY WORD.

Donley is now playing in a midfield role, with the club keen to give him further experience and to make him a more rounded player.
Gold said on his YouTube channel: “Jamie Donley scored a beauty for the U18s the other day. He could be a very good player if he keeps going as he’s going. He could do with a loan, but I’m intrigued to see how he and Will Lankshear work as a partnership in the youth ranks.
“Donley has been playing as more of a midfielder rather than the striker he is, so I think they’re trying to flesh out his skill set and his experience.”

It is a clever idea by the academy staff to give Donley a taste of a midfield role to improve his game, he is clearly more than comfortable at U18 level and the new position will give him an appreciation of what space is ahead of him when he comes to make the next step in his young career.
