Romagiallorossa.it have revealed that AS Roma might not be able to swoop for Evan Ndicka as Tottenham and Newcastle United have now entered the race for the Eintracht Frankfurt defender.
Ndicka has been a mainstay in Frankfurt’s backline since 2018 and the centre-back has started every single Bundesliga and Champions League game for the club this season (Transfermarkt), including the two clashes against Spurs.
However, the 23-year-old’s future is up in the air, with his current contract at Deutsche Bank Park running out next summer.
Calciomercato.it claimed last month that Frankfurt would be ready to sell Ndicka for a cut-price fee in the region of €8m-€9m (£7m-£7.8m) in January in order to avoid losing him on free in the summer.
Romagiallorossa have now reported that although the Frenchman is in Roma’s sights, Jose Mourinho’s men face competition from Premier League clubs for the defender, ‘especially Tottenham and Newcastle’.
The report adds that AC Milan were also considering a move for Ndicka but have been put off by the former Auxerre stars ‘exorbitant’ salary demands.
Spurs Web Opinion
Ndicka would be a good fit for the left-sided centre-back role in Antonio Conte’s back three. However, that is not a position Spurs are likely to strengthen during the January transfer window, which perhaps opens the door for Newcastle to swoop for the Frenchman.
