Neil Warnock has predicted that Tottenham and Liverpool have a shot of finishing in the top four but claimed that Manchester United will miss out on Champions League qualification.
Things were looking extremely rosy for Spurs after the first couple of months of the campaign but the Lilywhites had a downturn in form starting in October, which has left them with a lot of ground to make up on Arsenal and Manchester City.
However, Antonio Conte’s men still find themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table in addition to having finished at the top of their Champions League group.
The Italian will be hoping to add reinforcements to the squad in January and have a strong second half of the campaign but Warnock believes that winning a trophy rather than finishing in the top four should be the 53-year-old’s priority.
The former Middlesbrough managed told talkSPORT: “It’s the first time he’s had to work for his job Jurgen [Klopp], because he’s done really well. He’s had a bad spell so it will be interesting coming this last half of the season now, with him and Spurs.
“[Antonio] Conte can’t do much more. They’ve just got to win something, it’s not great to watch but he’s a winner, so I’d like to see Tottenham win something.”
However, Warnock believes that a top-four finish will be too difficult an ask for Erik Ten Hag in his first season at Old Trafford.
He added: “I don’t think Man United will come fourth, but I do think he’s [Ten Hag] getting the job done. I thought it would take two or three years.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The race for the top four spots will get really heated as Liverpool will not be as poor as they were in the first half of the campaign. I also expect Chelsea to improve as Potter gets more time to get his ideas across while Ronaldo’s departure might galvanise the Man Utd dressing room. So, it is too premature to rule out any of the ‘big six’ or Newcastle in the race for Champions League qualification.
