Dean Jones has revealed that Brighton are not going to let rumoured Tottenham target Alexis Mac Allister leave the club without a fight.
Mac Allister has been one of Brighton’s most consistent performers over the last 18 months and the midfielder’s stock has gone up considerably over the last few weeks as he has thrived on the world’s biggest stage for Argentina.
It has emerged over recent weeks that the 23-year-old’s displays in Qatar have turned the heads of a number of European clubs, including Spurs.
Italian outlet L’Interista reported a few days ago that Mac Allister is being closely followed by Antonio Conte’s men, and added that the Lilywhites face competition from the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid for the Brighton star.
Jones has now said that the Seagulls are building an ambitious project at the Amex Stadium and will not allow one of their prized assets to leave the club.
When asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of Mac Allister, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s going to be tricky because Brighton are getting a bit fed up of this.
“People are thinking that they can just come and pick their squad apart at a time when they actually have big ambitions of their own under De Zerbi.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Given that Mac Allister is contracted until 2025 (Transfermarkt), Brighton will certainly not let the midfielder leave on the cheap. I do not see Spurs breaking the bank for the 23-year-old in January as another central midfielder is not likely to be a priority for Antonio Conte at the moment.
