Chris Sutton has backed Aston Villa to emerge with a draw from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on New Year’s Day.
It was a familiar tale for Spurs when they resumed their Premier League campaign on Boxing Day against Brentford, with the Lilywhites digging themselves into a hole by going 2-0 down before battling back to salvage a point.
Antonio Conte remarked after the game that while he was disappointed that his side conceded the first goal yet again, he was pleased with the way they fought back in the second half to get a result (Football.London).
Meanwhile, Villa were soundly beaten at home by Liverpool on Boxing Day and will be looking to bounce back against the north Londoners.
Sutton has said that he saw enough from Unai Emery’s side as an attacking force against the Reds to suggest that they will cause problems for Spurs, and admitted that he is unsure what to expect from Conte’s men.
The pundit told BBC Sport about Sunday’s clash: “I just don’t know what to expect from Tottenham. For a team that is fourth in the table, they are extremely inconsistent and very unconvincing at times.
“Which Spurs side will turn up here, why does their manager Antonio Conte always say they are tired and why do they go behind in games so often?
“Aston Villa were well beaten by Liverpool in the end but they were pretty lively going forward. So, I have a sneaking feeling this will end up in a draw, although I suppose that is mostly because I have no idea what kind of performance we will see from Tottenham. Prediction: 2-2.”
Spurs Web Opinion
For all of our issues defensively and with starting slow, our home form has been very good this season and I would back us to overcome Villa on Sunday, particularly if Cristian Romero comes into the starting lineup.
