Tottenham Hotspur recorded their first win of 2023 this evening as they put four past Crystal Palace without reply in the Premier League.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 7.5 – A much better performance from the skipper today. He made a number of routine saves, as well as a couple of really good ones to keep the pressure off Spurs at key moments.

Matt Doherty – 8 – Drifted in and out of the game at times, but his late runs down the right-wing were key to a couple of Tottenham’s goals, including his own. When he has someone to feed him accurately, Doherty can be a danger in those positions, as he was towards the end of last season.

Cristian Romero – 7.5 – A typical no-nonsense Romero performance. You feel he gets a little bored at times when he pushes forward or closes down the opposition keeper.

Eric Dier – 7 – A decent performance, although the Brentford mistake seemed to play on his mind at one point as he chose to hoof the ball high into the air rather than attempt a back pass.

Clement Lenglet – 5.5 – He’s decent on the ball, but Lenglet was all over the place defensively today. Way too easy to knock it past him, or wait for him to dive in foolishly. Fortunate to get a clean sheet.

Ivan Perisic – 7 – A little suspect defensively, but accurate going the other way. Even when he is playing poorly, that Perisic left foot can always create a goal from nothing, which is exactly how Spurs got started today when Kane headed home his cross.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6 – Not at his best in the first half when Spurs’ midfield was chasing shadows a little. Much better in the second 45, but he still looks like he misses his pal Bentancur.

Oliver Skipp – 5 – Looked way off the pace, which is the problem when injuries force you to use players who have barely kicked a ball in months. Hopefully that match sharpness will come because he was half a yard too slow to everything today.

Bryan Gil – 7.5 – Perhaps his best match in a Tottenham shirt, all things considered. Started the match well as he successfully took on his markers a few times, then burst into life in the second 45, playing a key role in the build-up to a couple of goals.

Heung-min Son – 7 – Just what he needed! It’s amazing to see how much more confident he looked after scoring that goal, at long last. An assist to his name too, hopefully, this is the start of something.

Harry Kane – 9 – The difference maker for Spurs. Kane was at the heart of everything good in the second half, scoring twice, assisting once, and creating for fun. His season really is going under the radar because of Haaland.

Substitutes: 

Pape Matar Sarr – 7.5 – Looked so impressive off the bench! On and off the ball, he oozed class, composure, and even creativity. Can’t wait to see more from him.

Emerson Royal – N/A

Harvey White – N/A

Ben Davies – N/A
