Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna has revealed that Chelsea are determined to snap up Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram, who has been mooted as a target for Tottenham over the last couple of months.
Thuram has been in sensational form for Gladbach this season, with the versatile forward primarily operating as a number nine and finding the back of the net on 13 occasions in 17 matches across all competitions in 2022-23 (Transfermarkt).
The 25-year-old’s current contract runs out next summer and he certainly did not harm his prospects of making a big move with the performances he delivered for France at the World Cup.
Spurs are one of a whole host of clubs across Europe who have been credited with an interest in Thuram over recent months (90Min) but if the latest reports are to be believed, it appears like Chelsea are leading the race for the Gladbach star’s signature.
Foot Mercato have now reported that the Blues are ‘very keen’ on snapping up Thuram and are ‘determined to rush’ on a deal for the forward in the current transfer window.
The 25-year-old’s contract situation is said to be seen as ‘ideal’ by the Blues, who are looking to add reinforcements to their forward line.
Aouna’s update on Thuram has also been backed up by Fabrizio Romano, who has taken to social media to confirm that Graham Potter’s men have opened talks with the Bundesliga club regarding the France international.

Spurs Web Opinion
Thuram is a quality player and his contract situation makes him a lucrative option for many clubs but I was never convinced that Spurs would make a move for the 25-year-old this window.
That is because Conte is unlikely to be on the lookout for another number nine and would probably prefer an out-and-out winger who is good at carrying the ball and beating his man.
