Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim has said that it is difficult to overstate the value of rumoured Tottenham targets Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards to his side but admitted that the Portuguese club cannot pay the kind of salaries that other clubs can.
Tottenham’s pursuit of Porro has been well documented over the last couple of weeks, with the North London club now thought to be in talks with Sporting, who are allegedly demanding that his £40m release clause be met (Fabrizio Romano).

The Daily Mail claimed last week that it is not just Porro that Spurs are eyeing during the current transfer window but also his teammate Edwards.
O Jogo also backed up Tottenham’s interest in Edwards a few days ago but the publication explained that Porro remains the number one priority for Antonio Conte’s men ahead of the winger.
The report explained that while Spurs have a 50 per cent sell-on clause for the 24-year-old, they still find the €30m (£26.4m) fee they would have to pay to re-sign the attacker to be ‘excessive’.
Amorim has now confirmed that Sporting will only let Edwards and Porro leave this month if their respective release clauses are met.
When asked about the speculation over the duo, the 37-year-old told Record (06/01/23 as relayed by Sport Witness): “We are not as attractive a league as others and we cannot pay the same wages. This is a problem, even in relation to Portuguese clubs we have this difficulty.
“As was said, they only leave for the clause. We are ready. We know the amount of attacks that go through Porro and Edwards, nobody is blind here. But the market is what it is.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While it is quite clear that Porro is Tottenham’s top target for the right wing-back role, I doubt the club’s interest in Edwards is concrete. In Bryan Gil, we have an attacker with very similar characteristics to the Sporting winger, which is why a move for the 24-year-old might not make total sense, particularly if Spurs choose not to loan out the Spaniard.
