Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has taken to his Instagram account today to share a message with fans, after he remained to Italy to continue his recovery from a recent operation to remove his gallbladder.
At the start of this month, it emerged Conte had been experiencing abdominal pains and the club announced the 53-year-old had been diagnosed with cholecystitis. He underwent surgery in Italy to remove his gallbladder, which was successful.
Conte returned quicker than many expected, taking to the dugout for Tottenham’s trip to Leicester City last weekend and the Champions League tie with AC Milan on Tuesday night, which the north Londoners losing both fixtures.
A statement from the club’s official website today explained: “Following a routine post-operation check in Italy yesterday (Wednesday), Antonio Conte will remain at his family home to further and fully recover from his recent gallbladder surgery.”
“Health is the most important consideration and everyone at the Club wishes him well. Cristian Stellini will assume First Team responsibility,” the post added.
Now, Conte himself has sent a message to fans on social media to further clarify the situation.
He wrote: “My great sense of responsibility towards the club, the players, the staff and the fans brought me to anticipate my comeback on field. Sadly I underestimated the procedure, which wasn’t a routine operation, but a sudden and serious emergency.”
“My body has suffered my impatience, and now I am forced to stop until my entire recovery. Who knows me, understands what a burden this is for me, but it is necessary. Come on you Spurs!” he added.

The Italian is now expected to miss Sunday’s London derby against West Ham United in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs Web Opinion
It did feel really premature of Conte to come back for the Leicester game and as sad as it is to see him away from the team, he really needs to recover properly and take his time now.
We are in the capable hands of Cristian Stellini, and hopefully can get a good result at the weekend to make Antonio feel a little better about remaining in his homeland.
