BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has shared his predictions ahead of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures, and he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will get a positive result against West Ham United on Sunday.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that, when Tottenham registered a 1-0 win over Manchester City two weeks ago, it would be the result to kick-start their season.
The tightly-contested game should have been the motivation Spurs needed to press on and climb into the top four.
Since that game, Spurs succumbed to a heavy 4-1 defeat away at Leicester City in the league, and lost 1-0 to AC Milan in midweek in the first leg of the Champions League second-round tie.
The Lilywhites will be looking to bounce back in this home game against London rivals West Ham, but will have to do so without head coach Antonio Conte, who has returned to Italy for further recovery from his surgery earlier this month.
West Ham meanwhile come into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Chelsea. Despite picking up the point, the Hammers were lucky to hang on and could easily have lost the game.
Sutton finds this game a difficult one to predict with both teams proving to be inconsistent, but thinks Tottenham should come out on top.
He said: “I’ll start by wishing Tottenham boss Antonio Conte well and the main thing is he makes a swift recovery from his gallbladder surgery.
“Spurs won the last game Conte missed, against Manchester City earlier this month, and I am expecting a similar result here, helped by them having Cristian Romero back after suspension.
“But we don’t really know what we will get from Tottenham, as was shown by their heavy defeat at Leicester last time out.
“As for West Ham, they were very poor in the first 25 minutes against Chelsea and the game could have been out of sight for them by then.
“The Hammers hung on in there and got something out of the game but I don’t think they will get away with it if they put in a repeat performance against Tottenham.”
Sutton’s prediction: 3-1
Spurs Web Opinion
This is a game we should be winning, and absolutely have to if we want to put the disappointment of the last seven days behind us. With Romero back, and Stellini bringing his winning record to the dugout, I fancy us to take all three points, but it will be a very cagey affair. I’m going for 2-1.
