Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has rubbished the speculation regarding the Bundesliga club’s impending move for Harry Kane.
Kane’s current contract at Tottenham runs out in the summer of 2024 and reports over recent days have indicated that the North London club are expected to demand over £100m for the striker in the summer (Football Insider).
Manchester United have been mooted as the England captain’s most likely destination, with The Sun reporting on Monday that the Red Devils believe they will snap up the 29-year-old if Spurs fail to finish in the top four this season.
However, the speculation linking Kane with a move to Bayern refuses to go away, with 90 min reporting a couple of days ago that Julian Nagelsmann’s side intend to push ahead with a move for the Tottenham man despite tying down Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting down to a new contract.
Salihamidzic has now played down the speculation, refusing to discuss the Bundesliga club’s summer plans.
When asked about Bayern’s reported plans to pursue Kane, he told Sky Germany (as relayed by Fabrizio Romano and Yahoo Sport): “Nothing at all. It’s nonsense.
“It’s not in our thoughts at all. First of all, we extended Choupo-Moting.
“I hope he continues in the same way, and continues to score goals and then we’ll see.
“First of all, we are happy to have Choupo-Moting. I can’t say yet what will happen this summer (with regards to signing a new centre-forward).”
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that Levy would prefer to sell Kane to Bayern over a domestic rival and the Spurs chairman would even likely be willing to accept a significantly reduced fee from the Bundesliga club.
However, I do not think the 29-year-old will want to leave the Premier League and I do not expect Levy to stand in his way if the striker asks to join Man Utd.
