While discussing Harry Kane’s future at Spurs, Steven Gerrard has strangely suggested that the striker ‘is not from Tottenham’ and ‘has not been through’ the club’s academy set-up all the way through.
The speculation over Kane’s future is unlikely to subside unless the striker puts pen to paper on a new contract, which certainly does not look inevitable at the moment.

Football Insider reported last week that Tottenham would be able to convince the 29-year-old to commit himself to a new deal should they appoint a world-class manager to replace Antonio Conte.
The report asserted that Julian Nagelsmann’s arrival in North London would be enough to convince the England captain to sign on the dotted line, adding that the Tottenham hierarchy are big admirers of the German, who was sacked by Bayern Munich last week.
Gerrard himself was famously a one-club man in England but the Liverpool legend has strangely suggested that his affiliation with the Reds was different to the one Kane has with Spurs.
When asked about the Tottenham man’s future, the 42-year-old told Channel 4 on 26/03 (as related by MEN): “Listen, I don’t want to open a can of worms, he’s got a big decision to make career-wise.
“I’ve been there myself where you’re thinking is my team good enough to get me the medals? Am I going to get out of my career what I want to get?
“It’s different for me because I grew up a Liverpool fan from the city, all my family were Liverpool fans, and I knew winning one trophy more with Liverpool would have meant a lot more to me than being anywhere else.
“He’s not from Tottenham, he’s not been through Tottenham all the time, he’s got a big decision to make.
“I can’t give him any advice on that but I bet you every single day of his life now moving forward it’s gonna be on his mind.”
Meanwhile, Joe Cole suggested that it would be a ‘travesty’ if Kane ended his career without silverware.
The former Chelsea man said: “Stevie won loads of trophies in his career, Harry Kane’s nearly 30 and he’s not lifted silverware so for a player of his ability that will be a travesty. He’s got a big decision to make.
“I’m sure it’s not going to be something he’s thinking about now, because it’s all England now, but come tomorrow morning he’s back with his Tottenham head on and they have a big decision.
“I just think it would be a travesty if he finishes his career without winning a trophy because he’s one of the all-time greats in this country, that’s for sure.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Kane has been with Tottenham’s academy since the age of 11.
So, if that is not ‘being through Tottenham all the time’ as Gerrard describes it, I don’t know what is.
If the striker did not have any affinity with Spurs, he would have probably asked to leave five or six years ago as he could have joined any of Europe’s biggest clubs.
