Journalist Dean Jones has said that while Vincent Kompany will be considered by Tottenham, he is sceptical about claims that the Belgian has emerged as the North London club’s top target.
Multiple outlets have reported over the last month that Kompany is one of the names on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte (Daily Star).
However, The Sun went one step further, reporting on Wednesday that the Manchester City legend has now shot up to the top of Spurs’ wishlist.
The publication claimed that the Tottenham hierarchy have been ‘blown away’ by the work that Kompany has done since taking over at Burnley and the football that he has got his side playing.
The report suggested that the 36-year-old would be willing to listen to any offers from the Lilywhites as he is not convinced that the Clarets have the funds needed to do well in the Premier League next season.
However, Jones has now argued that Kompany is unlikely to be Tottenham’s top target, given his lack of experience at the top level.
When asked about the aforementioned report from The Sun, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s logical that his name comes into the conversation given the way he has made a mark as a coach so far, and one good contact told me there is something in Spurs’ interest.
“But as a number one target, I am slightly sceptical.
“He hasn’t managed in the Premier League and he is currently employed.
“I can’t see why he would be ahead of other targets that have a stronger CV.”

The only thing that seems to be evident at the moment is that Nagelsmann is Tottenham’s top target while the club are not overly keen on the idea of re-appointing Pochettino.
It is far from clear who Spurs will turn to if a move for Nagelsmann does not prove fruitful. I suspect that they might prefer Luis Enrique over both Arne Slot and Vincent Kompany.
