SportBild have claimed that Julian Nagelsmann has said no to Tottenham’s approach and will now hold face-to-face talks with Chelsea.
The publication reveals that Nageslmann was contacted by Spurs soon after his departure from Bayern Munich but he ‘quickly turned down’ the approach.
It is revealed that the German is a part of the ‘narrow circle of remaining candidates’ being considered by Chelsea to replace Graham Potter.
The Blues allegedly held talks with Luis Enrique a week ago, with the Spaniard said to have made a good impression.
Bild state that Nagelsmann will now fly to London to meet with the Chelsea hierarchy to hold discussions with them and present his ideas for the squad.
The report adds that the 35-year-old would prefer to wait until the summer to take on a new job and that Chelsea would be okay with that since they have brought in Frank Lampard as interim head coach.
Spurs Web Opinion
Perhaps it is my Tottenham bias, but I fail to see why Nagelsmann would be willing to take the Chelsea job but not the Spurs one.
Their squad needs major surgery to be able to compete with the top teams and they are not in a position to spend big over the coming transfer windows, given the FFP constraints.
Not only are Spurs likely to be in Europe next season but we also have some world-class attackers in our squad and are arguably just two or three top-class signings away (in central midfielder and centre-back) from competing with the top teams.
The German is also well suited to building a project at a club like Spurs as his success at RB Leipzig demonstrates.
