Despite all the bad news around Tottenham Hotspur right now, there is something to smile about as Heung-min Son has hinted he will be at the club for many years to come.
Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has become a cult hero at the club over the years. The 30-year-old has amassed 143 goals in 365 appearances for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt).
The South Korean star enjoyed an incredible campaign last year, scoring league 23 goals (Transfermarkt) to share the Premier League Golden Boot award with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
It’s been a different story for Son this season, however, who has struggled for form all year. He now has 12 goals in all competitions after a recent good spell in front of goal (Transfermarkt).
Son has bagged goals against Brighton, and again at the weekend in the defeat against Bournemouth. He now stands as the joint sixth-highest goalscorer in Spurs history, level with Jermain Defoe (GOAL).
When asked about how many more he can score for the club, Son was full of optimism and hinted he could be set for a long stay at Spurs.
He told Football.London: “I think I’ve got a few more years to play yet, so I will try to keep scoring more goals.
“I want to go a little bit higher [in the top scorers list], so I will do my best. It’s a big honour to have been playing for a few years now at this club.
“Obviously, I’m not really focused to be tied with this goalscoring record, obviously I just want to help the team, but it’s a big honour to be compared with Jermain Defoe, who is a Spurs legend and scored so many goals for Spurs.
“So I think to tie this goal tally makes me hugely proud.”
Spurs Web Opinion
He may have had a difficult season this year, but I would hate to see Sonny move on.
If he is willing to stay with us for years to come, that would be great news for Spurs and I think he can get back to his best next season.
