Journalist Graeme Bailey has been discussing the future of Mauricio Pochettino and claims the Argentine is more likely to join Tottenham Hotspur than Chelsea.
Both Tottenham and Chelsea are searching for a new permanent manager after parting ways with Antonio Conte and Graham Potter respectively over the last month.
Despite multiple reports that Pochettino could be set for a return to Tottenham, it has been suggested that the likes of Vincent Kompany, Julian Nagelsmann, and Arne Slot are ahead of him in the thoughts of the Spurs board (Daily Star).
According to The Athletic, Pochettino is keen on a reunion with the North London club, but Spurs have not even made contact with the 51-year-old yet.
On the other hand, it has been claimed that Chelsea are keen on Pochettino and have already made contact with him about their vacant position (GiveMeSport).
Now, Graeme Jones has shed some light on Pochettino’s options in a recent appearance on the Talking Transfers podcast, suggesting Spurs are the frontrunners should they choose to take him.
Speculating about why Spurs haven’t reached out to Pochettino yet, Jones said: “It’s an interesting one. Poch hasn’t been mentioned.
“I guess they already know what he’s about and he probably wouldn’t need an interview.”
And on the Chelsea links, Jones added: “I think he has more of a chance of being at Spurs than he does being at Chelsea at the moment.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I don’t think Pochettino would actually take the Chelsea job.
Whether he gets the Spurs job or not, he has such a fondness for the club and the fans and I don’t think he would want to affect that by joining a rival.
I do wonder whether Daniel Levy will eventually get in touch with Pochettino, as you’d think he would at least discuss the situation as a courtesy.
