David Raya, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over recent months, has admitted that he wants to test himself in Europe.
Spurs are expected to be on the lookout for Hugo Lloris’ successor in the summer, with some outlets indicating over the last few months that Raya is one of the names at the top of the North London club’s wishlist (The Daily Mail).
The Spaniard, whose stock has grown considerably over the last few years, is set to enter the final year of his contract at the Brentford Community Stadium in June (Transfermarkt).
Bees boss Thomas Frank admitted back in February that the goalkeeper has already turned down two different contract offers from the club (Sky Sports).
Tottenham are expected to face competition from both Manchester United and Chelsea for the 27-year-old’s signature this summer (Ben Jacobs – CaughtOffside on Substack).
Raya has now admitted that he wants to test himself at the highest level at this stage of his career.
When asked about the speculation linking him with the aforementioned clubs, the goalkeeper said on Yours, Mine, Away podcast (as relayed by MEN): “Obviously it’s nice to hear that clubs are after you and asking about you and looking for you.
“These clubs are the biggest in the world and every player wants to play for these clubs and everything.
“I have a year left and I don’t know what will happen in the summer. I’ve said before that I’ve had two contracts that I’ve turned down because they weren’t the offers I was looking for.
“I want to push myself to the highest level to the Champions League, the Europa League and to win those trophies. I want to experience that and I’m at that stage in my footballing career.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Raya certainly does not appear close to signing a new deal with Brentford, which means that an exit is probably eminent for the goalkeeper this summer.
I would not be surprised if the Spaniard is the number one target for all three of Spurs, Chelsea and Man Utd.
