Journalist Graeme Bailey has suggested that we should not rule out the prospect of Brendan Rodgers being offered the Tottenham job.
Since Rodgers’ sacking at Leicester City, there has been plenty of speculation about Spurs potentially approaching the Northern Irishman about replacing Antonio Conte at the helm.
Football Insider claimed two weeks ago that the 50-year-old is looking like the right fit for Spurs and that there is a ‘good chance’ the Lilywhites will move for him in the summer.
The report explained that Daniel Levy has been a long-time admirer of Rodgers, with the Spurs chairman said to have first tried to hire him over a decade ago when he was in charge of Swansea City.
However, Alasdair Gold suggested in a Q&A on Football.London last week that, as things stand, the recently departed Leicester boss is not near the top of the North London club’s wishlist.
Bailey has now said that Rodgers cannot be completely ruled out as a candidate, suggesting that the former Liverpool boss could still be in consideration by Levy.
He said on the Talking Transfers Podcast: “It might come down to (Luis) Enrique having the choice. They’re going to talk to him.
“There are others as well. Arne Slot, he’s going to be in contention, he turned down Leeds in January. Vincent Kompany, he’s doing a fantastic job at Burnley.
“And Brendan Rodgers, his name won’t go away, keep an eye on him guys, he is much-loved by Daniel Levy.”
Spurs Web Opinion
One bad season at Leicester does not make Rodgers a bad manager just as one bad season at Bournemouth did not make Eddie Howe a bad one.
However, even if the Spurs hierarchy are convinced that the 50-year-old would be a good fit, the move will certainly not be perceived as an ambitious one, either by the fans or the top players in the squad.
