Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham may not officially announce Julian Nagelsmann’s appointment until the end of the season as they would otherwise owe significant compensation to Bayern Munich.
There have been several promising updates over recent days regarding Spurs’ pursuit of Naglsmann.
SportBild reported over the weekend that the German is now fully concentrating on talks with Tottenham after turning down Chelsea and is ‘tempted’ by the prospect of taking over at N17.
Journalist Pedro Almeida subsequently revealed that the 35-year-old is ready to accept the Spurs job and that the North London club are now ready to begin negotiations with Bayern Munich since he is still officially on gardening leave.
However, Gold has explained that even if Tottenham were to strike a deal with Nagelsmann, the official announcement might not come until the summer.
The journalist suggested that Spurs might use the time until the end of the season to speak to other candidates.
Gold said on a Q&A on Football.London: “With the Nagelsmann situation, the word from those around Bayern is that anyone trying to take him before the season ends will have to pay a hefty compensation fee as he’s on gardening leave.
“I’m not sure whether the summer will see him available for free or for a reduced price, but that would seem to prevent his appointment until then unless there’s a way of announcing him with a later start date without Bayern legally having some kind of case for the original compensation.
“I think at this point leaving it until the end of the season does also open up the room to speak to more candidates in jobs, in order for Levy to do his due diligence.
“However, the pressure on the Spurs chairman is going to be immense in the weeks ahead, not least when Pochettino heads to Chelsea, so his hand might be forced into pushing through something.”

Now that Pochettino seems likely to end up at Chelsea, it will not go down well with the Tottenham fan base if the club miss out on Nagelsmann.
So, Levy and Co would likely need to do all they can to get this deal over the line.
While the likes of Arne Slot and Vincent Kompany have shown plenty of promise, it would not make much sense to give the job to either of those two ahead of Pochettino.
