Wow. Just when you think Tottenham can’t get any weirder, you watch a game like that.
Three goals down within the first 15 minutes and it looks like another Newcastle. Then 3-3 by the 90th minute and it looks like another Man United, only for Spurs to snatch defeat from the jaws of a famous comeback.
Let’s take a look at the five things we learned:

Defence? What defence?
No matter how much talent you have going forward, conceding five in 20 minutes to Newcastle, one in seven minutes against Man United, then three in 15 against Liverpool… it doesn’t give you much of a chance to build a platform. Big teams usually start games on the front foot, and the Spurs defenders, and midfielders for that matter, can’t seem to cope with the pressure that brings. Harry Kane must look down the pitch and wonder.
European places –
Tottenham are now sixth in the Premier League, level on points with an in-form Aston Villa. Brighton are two points behind but have a huge three games in hand. Tottenham are very much in a fight to have any European football next season. Part of me welcomes that, but no Europe would certainly see certain players ask to leave and may make it harder to attract others.
Oliver Skipp – Future captain?
It has been said a lot over the years, but the more Skipp plays, the more he seems like captain material if he can continue his impressive growth. The thing I like most about him is that he doesn’t sink into his shell when the going gets tough like some other players. He puts himself about, flies into challenges, puts his body on the line, and tries to win the ball back above all else.
Tottenham talent –
There is so much talent in this Tottenham team. We saw that in the second half. Coming from 3-0 down to draw level against Liverpool at Anfield is no easy task. However, this team has also stagnated for way too long and the past three years have been wasted. We need a project manager now, and we need to back them to actually start moving forward again. I fear it is three years too late for the likes of Harry Kane, but it needs to be done regardless. There is still lots to build around.
What Spurs need…
A new managing director of football. A new manager. Two new starting centre-backs. A new left-back. A creative midfield. Two new forwards after Lucas and Danjuma leave. It NEEDS to be a big window for Tottenham Hotspur.
