Garth Crooks has slammed Tottenham Hotspur for seemingly passing up on Mauricio Pochettino, insisting that Daniel Levy should have called the Argentine the second he decided to sack Antonio Conte.
Multiple outlets have reported over the past few days that Spurs are now expected to step up their pursuit of a new head coach, with Football Insider claiming on Wednesday that Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Arne Slot and Vincent Kompany are the four leading contenders for the role.

The Evening Standard subsequently asserted that Levy and co had done their due allegiance regarding various candidates and are now expected to hold discussions with them regarding the hot seat.
However, one man who Tottenham will not be hiring is Pochettino, with reports indicating that the Lilywhites did not even reach out to the 51-year-old to discuss the possibility of returning to the club (talkSPORT).
The former Spurs manager now appears to be on the cusp of joining Chelsea (90 min) and Crooks believes that it would be a major mistake if the North London club’s hierarchy allow their former boss to go to Stamford Bridge.
He wrote in his column for BBC Sport: “If the Tottenham board are to be taken seriously then they must give the fans what they want and the players what they need.
“Their next managerial appointment must be Mauricio Pochettino who should have been appointed the moment Antonio Conte walked out the door.
“Should Pochettino be allowed to join London rivals Chelsea, who are in a considerably worse position than Spurs, it would be a nothing short of a dereliction of duty by Tottenham’s executives.”

I, like most Spurs fans, would love for Pochettino to come back but for one reason or another, it seems like the Spurs hierarchy have decided against the idea.
Crook’s assertion that Levy should listen to the fans on this is ridiculous. The Tottenham chairman and board should appoint the candidate who they think is the best man for the job, irrespective of what fans think.
After all, most Spurs fans were on board with the idea of getting Conte but they turned around and criticised the club for the appointment when it did not work.
The fan base was fuming at the idea that Eddie Howe taking over but he has clearly proved since going to Newcastle that he would have been an excellent fit for Spurs.
