Dimitar Berbatov believes that Harry Kane’s legacy at Tottenham is now so great that the striker will want to end his career at the North London club in order to preserve it.
The speculation over Harry Kane‘s future looks set to dominate the headlines for weeks and potentially months to come.

The striker has a little over 12 months left to run on his contract and according to multiple sources over recent weeks, he will not enter into negotiations with the Tottenham hierarchy over a new deal until a new head coach is in place (Football Insider).
The England captain has continued to be heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Red Devils thought to be prioritising a move for the Tottenham man (Daily Star).
However, The Telegraph suggested recently that Daniel Levy is expected to demand £100m for his talisman despite his contract situation and that Erik Ten Hag’s side have no intention of getting into protracted negotiations with the Spurs chairman that could last many months.
Berbatov, who himself made the move from N17 to Old Trafford back in 2008, does not expect Kane to follow in his footsteps, insisting that his legacy as a one-club man would be tarnished if the 29-year-old leaves Tottenham now.
The Bulgarian told PA news agency (as relayed by BBC Sport) about the England captain: “I can understand and can relate to his situation.
“I feel for him, but at the same time I think he is going to stay at Spurs.
“His legacy now is so great that he cannot force himself to tarnish it – when you say Spurs, it is Harry Kane and when you say Harry Kane, it is Spurs.
“They are connected forever because he is the leading goalscorer of the team, of the country [England national team] and probably is going to break Alan Shearer’s record for most goals in the Premier League as well.”
When asked if Kane should prioritise winning trophies over sealing his legacy at Tottenham, Berbatov responded: “So it is down to him to know what is important for him – [for] his legacy with Spurs, which is unbelievable now.
“[As for] personal records, it is important also to win something before he is finished playing football. It is up to him to decide.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that being a one-club man at a club like Spurs and having a statute outside the stadium is much more likely to seal one’s legacy than winning a trophy or two at a club like Man Utd.
Having said that, there is no doubt that Kane would be desperate to win silverware and it is up to the Tottenham hierarchy to convince him that he can do so in North London over the coming years.
