Football Australia have congratulated new Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou for creating history by becoming the first-ever Australian manager in the Premier League.
Tottenham confirmed earlier today that Postecoglou had signed a four-year contract with the club, with Daniel Levy backing the 57-year-old to bring a positive mentality and attacking style of play to the club.
It is undoubtedly the biggest challenge of Postcoglou’s more than two-decade-long coaching career, which has seen him work in Australia, Japan and Spain, and even coach the Socceroos.

Postecoglou started his coaching journey at South Melbourne before being given a chance to coach the country’s Under-17s and Under-20s.
He then impressed at A-League sides Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory before leading the Australian national team to Asia Cup glory in 2015.
Postecoglou then took charge of Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, guiding them to a historic J-League title in 2019 before moving to Scotland in 2021, where he has led Celtic to five trophies in two seasons.
Upon the news of his appointment at Spurs, Football Australia’s chief executive officer, James Johnson, said: “On behalf of Football Australia, we would like to congratulate Ange on his appointment to the English Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
“This appointment is a personal triumph for Ange and his family, and we are absolutely delighted for them.
“Ange personifies the Australian football story: a proud Greek-Australian who immigrated to Australia at a young age and found his place in a new Australia through football.
“After making a name for himself domestically, from his playing days at South Melbourne Football Club to his success as Socceroos’ Head Coach leading the team to Asian Cup glory in 2015 on home soil, Ange has gone on to test himself successfully in the global football arena against the world’s best.
“This new chapter at Spurs for Ange is a testament to his enduring determination, skill, and vision as a leader.
“It is also a moment of great pride for Australian football and highlights this current golden age as we see more of our coaches making an impact on football around the globe and a steady presence of players across European leagues, particularly in Great Britain.
“Together with our co-hosting of the FIFA Women’s World Cup
commencing next month, this is a clear indication that our country has emerged as a new power in global football and underlines the compelling legacy we are building for Australian football.”

While some will scoff at Postecoglou’s CV and belittle the competitions he has won, it is worth noting that it is certainly not easy for someone of his background to work his way up to the very top level of the game.
The fact that he has done that is perhaps evidence of the fact that he is indeed a very special coach.
