Spanish news outlet Onda Cero have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix this summer.
Felix has not fulfilled the potential he showed when he first broke through at Benfica as a teenager, with Atletico seeing nowhere near the expected returns on the £113m they invested to sign the forward in 2019.
The 23-year-old would have hoped that the loan move to Chelsea in January would help to revive his career but he struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, scoring just four times in 16 Premier League appearances (Transermarkt).
Onda Cero now explain that new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has decided against extending Felix’s stay, which is why he has now returned to his parent club.
However, it is asserted that both Atletico Madrid and the player wish to part ways this summer, preferably on a permanent deal, or at the very least another loan.
Spurs could be interested in a move for Joao Felix
The report states that Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes is now working to place his client in a Premier League club ahead of next season, with the outlet adding that Spurs and Aston Villa ‘could be interested’ in the forward.
Onda Cero add that the one stumbling block for both clubs is that the Portugal international only wants to join a team who are in the Champions League.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not see Tottenham spending big on forwards this summer if Harry Kane ends up staying, which looks likely at the moment.
While we do need to sign some wide players following Moura’s and Danjuma’s exit, the bulk of our transfer budget would likely go to strengthening in goal, at centre-back and in midfield.
